Derby Day of Discovery, presented by the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund, and Kentucky Derby Preview Panel set for April 26 at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will play host to a pair of special events on Saturday, April 26 associated with the upcoming Kentucky Derby. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Museum’s education department will present a Derby Day of Discovery program in the Museum’s HorsePlay! Gallery, which is sponsored by the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund. At 12 p.m., the Museum will hold its annual Kentucky Derby Preview Panel in the Hall of Fame. Admission to both events is free.

In anticipation of the following week’s Kentucky Derby, the one-of-a-kind Derby Day of Discovery family event will educate kids about America’s most famous race and get them involved in the celebration. Kids will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of Derby-themed activities with a hands-on approach to learning about America’s oldest continuously ran stakes race. Topics and corresponding activities will include roses, fascinators/top hats, souvenir glasses, and a reading of Gaston Goes to the Kentucky Derby by James Rice at 11 a.m.

The family event will be followed by an analysis of the upcoming Kentucky Derby field by racing experts Tom Amello and Michael Veitch in the Hall of Fame. The panelists will break down the key Derby prep races and provide their thoughts on how they expect the race to unfold and answer questions from the audience. The preview panel will be moderated by Brien Bouyea, the Museum’s Hall of Fame and Communications Director.
